Aleya’s Approach

Registered Clinical Counsellor Online in the Lower Mainland

I believe that it takes courage and vulnerability to engage in therapy, and I consider it a privilege to be able to do this work. My goal is to offer support as you find your way through difficult times, using approaches that align with your comfort level and unique needs.

I support adult individuals (19+) who are struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, pregnancy and parenting, chronic pain or illness, interpersonal communication and relationships, generational and cultural issues, and career challenges or transitions.

In our sessions, you can expect a holistic, culturally-sensitive approach in a safe space where you feel welcomed to be yourself. My practice draws from CBT, DBT, ACT, Mindfulness, and EMDR to help you process emotions, recognize your strengths, and move through life’s challenges with compassion and confidence.

Common Questions

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes, Aleya offers online counselling for adult clients (19+).

What issues do you specialize in?

Anxiety, depression, life transitions, perinatal and parenting challenges, chronic pain and disability, communication and relationships, and cultural identity work.

What inspired you to become a counsellor?

I honestly don't think it ever genuinely occurred to me to do anything else. I went from being a 4-year old girl telling everyone that - "I'll be a mermaid when I grow up!" -  to knowing I would, without-a-doubt, end up in a helping profession and then taking that path every chance I could throughout my academic and professional career. I've never looked back or wished for anything different.

What do clients often say feels different about working with you?

I've had a few clients tell me that they appreciate the informal, relaxed approach I take in sessions. I let my human side show - you'll see facial expressions, we'll laugh about things together, I might swear or shed a tear with you. And sometimes I'll blurt out the thing we all need to hear but were too scared to say. We're in this space co-creating and co-authoring a genuine experience for your benefit, so I wouldn't have it any other way.

What small changes do you see make the biggest impact over time?

One small thing that I invite my clients to start adding to their days and practice getting comfortable with is what I call  "a mindful moment": During any natural transition during your day from one task or shift in environment to another, take a few seconds to actually check-in with yourself using a few structured questions. It prompts you to recognize what you (and all of us!) have been conditioned to sweep over, and realize where you can actually interrupt an unhealthy pattern or anticipate how you're going to react to what comes next. I love that it gets us paying attention to our own basic, essential needs with insight so we can move forward together and explore any other areas that have gone unchecked or shifted how we show up for ourselves over time. Feeling "hangry" or reactive because you're sleep-deprived or stressed are very real indicators of how we cope - let's stop ignoring those cues, meet that need, and then move on to figure out what comes next.

How do you help clients feel comfortable opening up?

Aside from showing up exactly as I am, I prioritize attunement to what I'm seeing and hearing from clients and do my best to honour that and move us forward at a comfortable pace. Feeling safe and seen in the space that we build together in our sessions, whether it be virtual or in-person, is essential to a good working relationship between us. It's also important for me to check-in regularly so that we can have an honest and genuine interaction about how to meet your needs, and support you in whatever direction you need to go in.
